The most wonderful time of the year...

Johnny and I have been a bit reclusive lately. He took two days off work this week, and we have been cozied up in our little apartment all week. Really, it has been wonderful. I've been needing a breather from constantly going and doing. Today, however, we ventured out to do some Christmas shopping around the city. I was not aware of this, but apparently Saturdays in December mean Christmas shopping in the city for everyone!

Here is what we did and saw along the way:

We stopped inside St. Patrick's Cathedral. It was full of people, some walking about, some just sitting and soaking it up. Others were offering silent prayers. Isn't it beautiful? I had never been inside. It was finished in 1878... Sometime I will take a picture and post it of the outside, which is just as amazing.

We walked past the Rockefeller tree! See all the people? Yeah, no more Saturday shopping this month. The tree is even more marvelous at night, although I failed to bring my camera when we did our nighttime stroll by it.

Lots of NYC policemen were directing traffic. Everyone had a shopping bag full of Christmas gifts (I'd like to think!). Johnny was like a man on a mission. He got us through these crowds in no time.

I LOVE the Christmas decorations throughout the city. This is just one of many we saw. Christmas, Christmas, Christmas!

I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but those are carolers in front of the library. I think they were school-aged children. I can't remember the song they were singing, but I loved it.

Anyway, the city is magical at Christmastime. We still haven't been to Macy's on 34th Street, but when we go, I will sit on Santa's lap and take lots of pictures.

I sent out our Christmas cards today! Look for them in the mail!

It is the best time in NYC! The cold doesn't penetrate because of the warmth of christmas! (shouldn't that be on a christmas card?)

Maribeth's comment was magical. :)

I made the mistake of going to Midtown after work Saturday afternoon to pick up a quick gift for someone before heading home. I made the second mistake of trying to walk through Rockefeller Center and past Radio City to get to the subway. MASSES of people!! Ahhh! It was so crazy! Your pictures captured the craziness very well. It seemed like every New Yorker and every tourist was at Rockefeller Center and around Midtown shopping on Saturday, haha.
