Halloween 2014

Halloween was so much fun with Sally this past year! And I have a feeling this coming year will be even more fun. The Riverwoods had trick-or-treating a few days before Halloween, so we used that as a test run for Sally. You just never know how a toddler is going to respond to a new situation. In short, though, Sally loved it. Once she realized people were giving her candy just for showing up, she was all about it! And her costume was a big hit. Since it went so well, we decided to let her trick-or-treat on Halloween night, too.

We went to the neighborhood in our ward and joined the Primary Halloween parade. But a few of the costumes were a bit upsetting to little Sal, so things got off to a rocky start.

But Sally soon recovered. Here she is with one of our Primary kids, Lizzy.

Sal really loved trick-or-treating once again, but she couldn't quite understand the concept of grabbing just one piece of candy. Luckily, most people let it slide since it's hard to say no to a two-year-old aerobics instructor.
When we got home, we let her indulge in a sucker, which was unbelievably sticky and messy. And then off to bed she went. I can't remember a Halloween I enjoyed so much. Having kids during holidays makes it so much more fun!

Halloween

I'm going to consider it a success that I'm blogging about Halloween before Christmas has passed!

Halloween was a low-key event in our house. I always imagine things much more extravagant in my mind, and then when it comes down to the nitty gritty, I remember that we have a baby. And babies don't do extravagant. At least ours doesn't. Johnny and I have come to terms with the fact that Sally is not the most easy-going soul.

I used to swear I wouldn't be that parent who built my life around my baby's sleeping schedule, but I totally am, for now at least. And so on Halloween night, despite our plans to go trick-or-treating with my sister Melyssa and her family, we decided to just call it a night after we had dinner with them. Sally's bedtime is 7:00, and she'd missed her afternoon nap that day, so we opted for a sleeping baby rather than a screaming baby.

But Halloween afternoon was quite a treat! Johnny's work had all the employees' kids come trick-or-treating around the office at 4:00. So I dressed Sally up in her elephant ensemble and headed on over.

Sally was the perfect elephant, even though she never even knew what she looked like :). It was so fun to have a baby to dress up this year. Even though we haven't done much for Halloween in the past, I could see us really getting into it once our kids are a little older!

Cousin Halloween Party

My mom was in town just recently, and I thought it'd be fun to do a cousin Halloween party while she was around. It ended up being great! Sally was pretty sad during it, both from being tired and teething. But I loved the excuse to get her dressed up in her elephant costume!

I took pictures of all of my nieces in their get-up. We had a witch, a pirate, a gypsy, a dancer, a nerd, and two Alice in Wonderlands!

Halloween 2012 Festivities

Johnny and I carved pumpkins for the first time this year since we were dating! Youth Lagoon played on the record player, and I took care of gutting the pumpkins while Johnny did the actual carving. It was a perfect night that ended with our bellies full of roasted pumpkin seeds.

We also recorded The Shining on TV and watched it on Monday night. I'd never seen it, and it definitely fulfilled my creepy-movie quota for the year.

Yesterday for Halloween Johnny and I commemorated the day by wearing wolf shirts. On Halloween night we got together at a couple's house with some other couples for fondue and games. It was such a fun, relaxing night. We couldn't have asked for a better excuse to stay out late on Halloween.

And now it's November! My goal this month is to take more pictures of what we're up to. I think I've been avoiding it because I haven't liked the pictures I've seen of my pregnant self. So silly.

I'll be posting a 31-week update soon, as well as a picture of my finished baby blanket!
