Utah, I despise you at times.
SNOW. ON MY MORNING COMMUTE. ON MAY 24. THIS IS NOT OKAY. If my work desk weren't visible to all, I would curl up with a good book and a blanket right now. As it is, I will just have to make do with my cup of hot cocoa.

Musings for the Day
- Why is it that when I get a snack out of the vending machines at work, some stranger has to comment on my food or drink of choice? "That's a lot of sugar for this early in the morning." or "Let me guess. You're thinking chocolate." (Yes, both men.) I am acutely aware of my decision to stoop to the vending machines for snackage, and I don't need anyone's thoughts on the matter, thank-you-very-much.
- Right now I have this inexorable urge to organize EVERYTHING, so much so that I feel overwhelmed and don't know where to begin. Maybe I should clarify and tell you that things aren't exactly disorganized in my home. This is just my super anal side kicking in.
- Don't know why, but on the way home from California, Johnny and I both thought pork rinds sounded good. Opening the bag made the car smell like a cow farm, and multiple times Johnny said, "What am I eating?" only to grab another one. It was midnight at the time, so we'll excuse our temporary lapse in judgment.
- While in California, I lost my voice. Entirely. No sound would come out. I had to whisper, which I have NEVER had happen. I had to interact with dozens of people that I had either never met or only met once, and it was one of the more socially bizarre times in my life.
- Johnny has tried twice in the last few days to show his appreciation for my cooking by loading the dishwasher with dirty dishes. Both times I have heard him and, suspecting what he is doing, have had to say, "Johnny, those dishes in the dishwasher are clean." And both times I hear him say, "Aw, shoot." He's cute. I love him.

Buster
Johnny and I arrived home from California early this morning (Sunday). We took a last-minute trip to California at the end of this past week because Johnny's grandpa passed away. We were very sad to hear the news on Tuesday night that he had died. These last few days we have had a chance to really reflect on life and put everything in perspective. Families really are the most important thing on this earth. I feel a renewed conviction that life continues after death. Buster had so much character that I know that he has not ceased to exist. He has simply left his body. I am so grateful for the knowledge of an after-life, and Johnny and I hope we can live our lives so we can be with great people like Buster someday. We are so grateful we had the opportunity to live with Buster and Helen this summer and make so many memories with them. We were sad to say goodbye to Buster, but we know we will see him again.

Mother's Day
Neither of us has really even had a chance to think about it being Mother's Day today. We are both so lucky to have such loving mothers. We both feel like we have a second mom, and that's the way mothers-in-law should be. I wish this weekend had presented a better opportunity to appreciate our mothers, but nonetheless we love them so so much.

Can't help but think...
I can't help but think about everything going on right now in the world.
Ash is covering half of Europe,
almost all of middle Tennessee has major flooding,
Chile and Haiti are still recovering from their earthquakes,
a massive oil spill is spreading across the entire gulf coast,
and there was an attempted car bomb in NYC a few days ago.
And those are just the headlines...
