Sim Memorial Day

Just like that Memorial Day comes and goes. I would be in favor of having a Memorial of "Memorial Day" Day. A day to sit and recollect the day previously and what you would have done, especially when Memorial Day brings rain and 50 degree weather. Just one more thing to add to my list of "Things I Will Do When I Become Governor." The state has yet to be determined, but I already have my speech all written out. My junior year of high school I wrote out my victory speech and the ideals I hoped my campaign would reflect. If an Austrian bodybuilder and an Independent-partied WWF wrestler could do, I can't be all that far off the mark. And if I might say so myself, all three of us share very similar physiques. I steered pretty far off-track, but what I was trying to say with my very first statement was that the weekend was nice, but not nearly long enough. If I printed my blogs and gave them to a doctor, I'm pretty sure I could leave their office with a bagful of ritalin and a diagnosis of ADD.

Joanna and I told ourselves we wouldn't do it, but we caved in. We installed The Sims on both our desktop and laptop computer and reignited our virtual family building. Early in our dating days, we both divulged our closet Sims days. Joanna enjoyed designing the inside of the home, while I favored the landscaping and flirting with Sim neighbors. I played with a previously saved single man and Joanna created a new couple that resembles Joanna and I. Playing as a married couple is slightly difficult. We both played separate games at the same time and made sure the other knew of the latest updates. Joanna let me know that my character refused to feed our baby (which doesn't resemble our current or near future family) while I let Joanna know about my Sim neighbor who flirted incessantly with me. I will probably have to get rid of her before Joanna sabotages my Sim.

Finally, I think this a good opportunity for you to get to know my wife. She likes to pretend to scold me and she started doing a weird voice last night. I took advantage of the moment and recorded her. I hope you enjoy.

Taste the Rainbow

This week Johnny and I have started making our lunches. When we were engaged, we would scoff at the married couples we saw with their homemade lunches. Now that we have almost been married a year, we have no shame. One of our other "married couple" guilty pleasures is American Idol; tonight we even went so far as to vote. Gasp!

The past few days have been absolute bliss for me. It's been hot here. I am a summer girl. I love the heat. These past few days have been in the 80s, and nothing can get me down. I don't care that I have to wear a skirt and nylons at my first job or that my boss likes to call me into her office every two seconds just to have me open a letter for her. In fact, yesterday at my second job, I actually had fun folding letters and stuffing them into envelopes for three hours straight. As long as it's warm, I can get through anything. Much to my disappointment, tonight the weather woman said that the next few days are going to be chilly. But, I have a trick for cold days too. I just think of all the great things I have to look forward to: 1) Friday is Payday! 2) Monday is a holiday! and 3) We leave for the beach in 3 1/2 weeks! So, those lovely thoughts will get me through until it's warm again.

On Saturday Johnny and I hiked the Y. It was probably a pretty comical sight. We had to stop at almost every turn to catch our breath. At each turn, I would say something like, "Oh Johnny, let's stop and look at the view!" (I'd just like to think that I'm still adjusting to the altitude.) When we first started the hike, a guy next to us started running up. When we were about a 1/4 way to the Y, the same guy was passing us in the opposite direction at an unholy pace. We had a really fun time, and despite our frequent stops, we managed to pass a family with five kids under the age of seven. Let me tell ya, they were really bookin' it...
On the way down, we ran the whole way: getting to Sonic in time for a 1/2 off slushie is quite the motivation.
I have this nasty film over my teeth from eating too many skittles, so I'm gonna brush my teeth and go to bed.

Icing.

Do you say icing or frosting? I say icing. Johnny says frosting.

The weekend has arrived. I finally feel lucid after a week of being a zombie. This was my first full week of working from 8:00 to 5:00. I made sweet rolls on Thursday night, and I found the best icing recipe to go on them. I have been searching for a perfect one for a while. I did not want one that was a glaze, but I did not want a super rich cream cheese icing either. I found the perfect medium:

2 c powdered sugar
1 (3oz) pkg cream cheese, softened
1 T butter, softened
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3 T milk

I got The Host by Stephenie Meyer this week. As usual, the writing is really well done. I have enjoyed the book but not as much as the Twilight series. I have not finished it yet, but I am close.

Monday Mix

I continue to have dreams that I missed a final. I took my last final two weeks ago. In my dreams, I usually miss a final for some math class. I haven't taken math since my junior year in high school. I can still throw numbers together, but knowing I wouldn't need to associate with them on a deeper level was a contributing factor in choosing advertising. The most math in my day usually involves computing the cost of a meal, 20-gallon tank of diesel fuel, or t-shirt from Target and translate that total into hours of work. For example, Joanna and I ate at Subway today (and sang the "$5 dollar foot-long" jingle the whole time in line... don't tell me advertising doesn't work its magic!) and cost us 45 minutes of work time. But with Joanna also working full-time, that Italian BMT and Cold Cut Trio only cost about 25 minutes of combined work time. After the numbers have been crunched, the most important question arises: did the sandwich artists at Subway deserve 25 minutes of our work time? I answer with a resounding, "Yes."

I might be a bit bias with my work time vs. worthiness formula this week considering the fact $600 magically appeared in our bank account this week. President Bush might be receiving record low approval ratings, but he gets two big thumbs up from this guy. It is yet to be seen whether or not it will actually stimulate the economy (which I think it will), but it certainly has stimulated my .15% Wells Fargo savings account. I've decided to switch to Washington Mutual this week. They offer a 3.25% online savings account and their web URL (wamu.com) is a full six characters shorter than Wells Fargos'. And we all know time equals money.

Tomorrow (hopefully) is my final day riding the public transit. I will definitely miss seeing some of the shady characters on the 830 route, but I'll probably end up seeing them on the news at some point for committing some crime. They might have started taking the bus like me: a young, aspiring professional who had simple car troubles. Give me another two weeks riding that thing and you might see me wreaking havoc too. Is public transportation at fault for our deteriorating society? Stay tuned.
