27-Week Update

I've said this a lot during my pregnancy, but I really feel like the time is flying. One of my closest friends had her baby this past week, and she and I were exactly three months apart in our pregnancies. It's hard to believe Johnny and I will be parents so soon.

I'm feeling great. I had several weeks where I was super energized, and I feel like that's beginning to wane a bit. Almost every night this past week I've fallen asleep while watching TV or a movie with Johnny, which is not like me at all.

I'm starting to feel the nesting craze that all expectant moms seem to experience. I find that when I start cleaning, I go on a frenzy and suddenly I'm vacuuming the whole house instead of just the living room rug. I'm also feeling an itch to get the nursery started. Yeah, started. I've had a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea of preparing a room for a little human whose existence is only apparent by my growing belly. But, I think the time has come to start getting her nursery ready . . . almost.

I had an appointment this past week in which I got to drink that lovely orange syrupy stuff and get my blood drawn. All my blood levels were good, so that was a relief.

As part of this so-called nesting, I've also been crocheting a blanket for our little girl, as well as reading up on labor and delivery and taking care of a newborn. I'm reading two books concurrently right now, and I have another one I need to order. It's not that I need or expect everything to be even close to perfect with the birth or with nursing, etc., but it's that I don't know anything. So I'm trying to fill my brain with as much common sense stuff as I can right now. We'll see how that goes.

We visited a couple in our ward this week who just had their first baby a couple weeks ago. When they handed me the baby, I honestly didn't know what to do with him . . . how to hold him, whether to rock him, or anything. Part of the awkwardness could be due to the fact that I technically have another baby sitting in my lap at all times, but it was still a bit disconcerting. . .

But, honestly, I really have no complaints. Aside from carrying around a bunch of extra weight from the waist up, I'm about as comfortable as can be expected. I sleep well at night, and I've been fortunate so far with only minor aches and pains here or there.

We're not ready for her yet, but we're getting there. Baby Girl, we're gonna do everything to be prepared for you come January 5th!

Wow, so strange to see you looking so pregnant! You look so great. It's crazy to think that Kelsey had her baby at this point! Can you even imagine?! Anyway, it is really getting close and I'm so so excited for you. I can't wait to meet this little lady!

You are so funny about holding the other newborn. :) Holding your own baby will be so natural and easy.
Also, you look more pregnant in this pic than on video chat. You look like you're in great shape, too!
